Sketchbooks
Spiral sketchbooks are recommended for this course because they're flexible and fold over, which allow you to be more mobile. The ones with hard covers are especially good because they create a solid drawing surface for you to work with.
It's recommended to have two sketchbooks, one for a workbook to practice on your own time and a field sketchbook that is extremely sturdy and can take being painted on.
This first sketchbook is Aquabees. It can hold wet mediums and regular drawing utensils well. You can buy them at any Blick's store, and the official website is here
Pencils
All pencils are made differently and will feel different when using it. The values can greatly vary as well, so test out what works best for you.
Brush Pens and Other Pens
Brush pens have tips that vary from very thin, fine lines to wide strokes that simulate painting. With the water brushes, you can fill them with ink to get some nice washes over your drawings (assuming the under drawing is not a pencil or something that smears easily with water).
With other pens like felt tips and ballpoints, test them out to see what works best for you.

This case is very helpful in staying organized and mobile as we move from place to place on field trips. There are other kinds of pencil cases so use what's comfortable.
